Homemade Chocolate Sauce

Easy Homemade Chocolate Sauce

  • Author: Cherie
  • Yield: About 10 - 12 Tbsp 1x

With just 4 simple ingredients, make this easy homemade chocolate sauce as a healthier version of store-bought chocolate syrup. Smooth, sweet and chocolatey, definitely goes great with ice cream, brownies, cakes and drinks!

Units Scale
  • 40g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 80g sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 100ml water
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  1. Whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, salt and water in a saucepan.
  2. Place saucepan over the stove on medium heat. As the mixture heats up, whisk constantly to prevent burning. The mixture will thicken and start to boil in a few minutes.
  3. Let it continue to simmer for about 2 – 3 mins, while continuing whisking. Lower the heat if needed.
  4. Once mixture thickens to your liking, remove saucepan from heat. Whisk in vanilla extract.
  5. Let mixture cool slightly before pouring into a clean, heatproof container. Let cool completely before putting on the lid and storing in the fridge. The chocolate sauce will keep well for up to 1 week.
