Delicious One-Pot Cabbage Rice Recipe
This cabbage mushroom rice is actually quite versatile! At times, I’ll switch some of the ingredients according to what I have in my fridge.
So, if you are wondering, you can definitely substitute certain ingredients in this recipe, such as using chicken or roasted pork for the protein, or add in more ingredients like chestnuts or cut pumpkin!
How Can I Cook This Cabbage Mushroom Rice?
I cooked this dish in my 3L Thermos Shuttle Chef thermal pot, where I stir fry the ingredients in the inner pot, before adding hot water and bringing the pot of rice to a boil. After that, I then transfer the inner pot to the outer pot for further cooking.
You can also cook this dish using a rice cooker. Simple stir fry the ingredients in your frying pan, before transferring to your rice cooker. Add hot water and let it cook to perfection!

How Does It Taste Like?
I like the taste of nostalgia that this dish brings! It is like a very basic Singaporean household dish that busy mothers would cook for their children back in my childhood days.
The dried shrimps and shiitake mushrooms also add more flavor and umami to the overall taste, so don’t omit these 2 ingredients!
Ingredients For This Dish
- Rice: I use short-grain rice at home, so the recipe below uses short-grain rice. If you use long grain rice, simply adjust the water accordingly.
- Dried Shiitake Mushrooms: Use dried shiitake mushrooms instead of fresh ones, as the dried mushrooms carry a deeper flavor.
- Dried Shrimps
- Pork Loin
- Cabbage: Personally, I like to use Japanese cabbage because it taste fresher and sweeter. I usually get the Japanese cabbage from RedMart or Don Don Donki. However, do note that sometimes it can be either a hit or miss for fresh items from RedMart : )
- Dark / Light Soy Sauce
- Sesame Oil
- White Pepper
