What is Sake?
Sake is a colorless Japanese alcoholic beverage made from fermented rice, which usually carries an alcoholic content of about 15% – 16%. So it can be strong, especially if you do not take alcoholic beverages well.
I remember first trying sake when I was waitressing in a Japanese restaurant / sake bar during my Uni days. The bosses of the restaurant were really nice to their employees and they introduced a lot of information about sake to us, and that also included sake sampling. That was when I first tasted sake!
Sake Cocktail
I wonder if you might be like me – I can take wine quite well, but not liquor that is too high in alcohol content.
Recently we won a bottle of sake, and the Ume scent in the sake attracted me. So, I was wondering how can I make the sake more “drinkable” for myself. I was glad that I thought of making it into a fizzy cocktail, because it tastes really great!

What Do I Need to Make This Cocktail?
You will need just these 4 simple ingredients:
- Ice
- Sake: You can get sake in original flavor, or sake with added flavor like yuzu sake.
- Sprite / 7-Up: You can get either sprite or 7-up. I am using Sprite here because I saw there were some cute mini cans while doing my weekly grocery. Or, you can also use sparkling water and add syrup on your own.
- Lemon: We will need just a couple of squeezes of lemon juice and 1 slice of lemon.
Just add everything into a glass, mix it up, and the cocktail is ready to be served!
