What is Buttermilk?
Buttermilk is a kind of cultured milk, somewhat similar to yogurt.
It is a richer liquid, compared to whole milk. Thus it imparts a richer / moister texture to baked goods which use buttermilk, and at the same time adding a slight tang to the taste.
However, most of the time, the recipes will not be using the entire carton of buttermilk, and you may find it a waste to just purchase a carton of it, to only use half the amount.
Although I have to say that the real buttermilk really makes a whole lot of difference to the texture and taste of the baked items! 🙂
